About This Product: Lucid is a marble mosaic built around an imagined history: a romantic 19th century French floor that never existed, yet feels as though it could have.
Rather than reproducing a documented French mosaic vernacular, designer Graham Barr has invented a unique and exclusive pattern. Its geometry draws from two of the simplest forms associated with traditional farmhouse flooring – the square and the hexagon – then reinterprets them in marble, a material more closely associated with grand French interiors. A checkerboard rhythm recalls the familiar setting of cafes and bistros, creating a pattern that sits deliberately between worlds: country and city, humble and defined, utilitarian and decorative.
The concept harkens back to a period when French interiors were moving away from the overt formality of earlier aristocratic styles and Paris itself was being transformed. Lucid feels as though it might have appeared beneath the tables of a neighborhood café along one of the city’s newly opened boulevards. Its history is fictional, but its visual language is believable.
The tension between past and present extends to the way Lucid is made. While the pattern is intended to feel historic, its execution relies on highly precise contemporary manufacturing. Each tessera is carefully cut and assembled to create exceptionally tight joints, allowing the mosaic to read as a nearly continuous surface with virtually no visible grout lines. The result has a tailored, almost inlaid quality that elevates the simple geometry while preserving the warmth, movement, and natural variation of stone.
Six different colorways allow the pattern to range from subtle tonal combinations to bolder contrasts, while maintaining the same strong geometric identity.
Suitable for interior floors, walls, and wet areas, Lucid translates an invented piece of design history into a versatile contemporary surface.
