Product/Collection Name: ACRE by Modern Mill

About This Product: ACRE by Modern Mill is a tree-free wood alternative made from upcycled rice hulls, manufactured at a zero-waste facility in Fernwood, Mississippi. ACRE is designed to replace wood across the applications architects and designers use it most, without the compromises other alternatives require. The collection includes siding, trim, moldings, decking, porch boards, and custom millwork, giving designers a tree-free option nearly everywhere wood is traditionally specified.

ACRE is the only stainable composite on the market. Most composites are limited to a fixed factory finish or a capstock surface that looks plastic rather than wood. When stained, ACRE becomes virtually indistinguishable from prized species like cedar, ipe, teak, and mahogany, delivering a genuine wood grain without the knots, sap lines, or tannins that make staining natural wood unpredictable. That authenticity is why architects specify ACRE in many biophilic design projects. Its wood-like texture and warmth help occupants feel a closer connection to nature, supporting the wellness benefits biophilic spaces are designed to deliver.

Beyond its beauty, ACRE resists water, weather, pests, and rot, and won't splinter the way natural wood can over time. Designers get the aesthetic they are looking for without the maintenance or replacement concerns that come with real wood. ACRE gives clients a material built to hold its beauty for the life of a building. It's also extremely versatile with the ability to be thermoformed into custom shapes that fit any design vision.

ACRE is also made from an agricultural byproduct that would otherwise go to landfills. Since its inception, the use of ACRE has helped drive environmental savings of 69,000 acres of tropical rainforest preserved, 101,000 softwood trees saved, and 20.5 million pounds of rice hulls diverted from landfills. For architects and designers, specifying ACRE means delivering the beauty of prized wood species while directly reducing the environmental footprint of a project.
