The Oyster Listening Chair is the result of a collaboration between Oyster Wellness and the global leaders in audio innovation at Brodmann Acoustics. It’s designed to complement high-performance audio systems and ensure you hear and feel your audio setup exactly as it was meant to be experienced.

We began by identifying the key problems most chairs introduce into a space: flat, reflective surfaces; materials that are either too absorptive or not absorptive enough; inadequate head and back coverage, or too much of it.

The Oyster Listening Chair is designed to address those challenges. Every angle and surface is considered. The chair manages near-field reflections by integrating acoustic performance directly into its form. A tall, curved back minimizes rear reflections, while sculptural, sloped surfaces reduce artifacts and preserve spatial clarity. A network of recessed absorbers paired with narrow wood diffusers maintains openness without deadening the space. The inner arms feature variably spaced, non-parallel waveforms that diffuse mid-to-high frequencies, reducing echo, fatigue, and comb filtering.

Ergonomically, the chair encourages a more upright posture than a lounge, keeping the listener centered in the soundstage. The flared back shields the ears without enclosing them, preserving clarity, openness, and presence.

Sustainability isn’t an afterthought—it’s built into every element of the chair. Unlike most environmentally conscious seating, which relies on recycled plastics, the Oyster Listening Chair is constructed entirely from non-plastic, recycled materials. The shell is made from FSC-certified recycled beechwood bonded with a food-grade, plant-based adhesive—naturally sound-absorptive and zero-waste—dampening up to 35% of sound in the 500–2000 Hz range. Cushions are made from recycled foams and upholstered in acoustically balanced, natural, recycled textiles. Every material is selected for performance, comfort, and environmental integrity.
