Description
The Natural Pod™ Unbuilders table is part of the Better Together Partnership Collection, created to offer a warm and welcoming environment that tells a real life sustainability story within learning environments.
Designed by Natural Pod in partnership with Unbuilders and Heritage Lumber, each based in British Columbia, Canada, this table gives salvaged lumber a new life. The Unbuilders table supports students within their learning experiences, providing them with an opportunity to learn of the rich history of where their table came from, who made it and what else it can be.
The demolition industry generates millions of tonnes of waste annually in Canada, 37% of which is valuable lumber. The industry shift, of which Unbuilders is a leader, to deconstruction in this way, has massively positive environmental and social impacts. Currently, 4 million tonnes of waste are diverted annually by unbuilding buildings.
Our companies’ aligned values around environmental stewardship led to a partnership intentionally challenging the status quo of fast furniture and staying dedicated to conscious creation and purchasing. We believe that our commitment to great design and investing in sustainable practices is fundamental to our support of children, community, and the planet.
The Unbuilders 4×4 ft table is crafted with quality reclaimed lumber from deconstructed homes and commercial buildings throughout British Columbia. The table’s durable construction is a solid wood surface that allows it to be refinished whenever needed, with its durability lending itself to a range of activities throughout any age learning environments. A wax-based finish allows the one-of-a-kind wood grain to be the showcase of the table, accented with metal hairpin legs. The solid wood construction allows for refinishing to ensure this table will support learning for a lifetime.
This beautifully tactile table not only creates a story in the classroom but offers students and educators a connection to nature. Every piece of learning furniture or environment that children interact with has the opportunity to impact their sense of self. By creating these intention pieces, it’s possible to instill both environmental stewardship while deepening students' connection to their own learning journey. This leads to greater creativity, innovation, joy and overall better learning outcomes. Serving students, educators and communities, both now and long into the future.
