Product > lighting: pendant (single bulb)
The inspiration behind the Lenis came from Cerno’s founders’ love for being in and on the ocean. Long before they started the company, the three childhood friends grew up surfing and sailing and even built a boat together as one of their first projects twenty-three years ago. The Lenis pays homage to the founders’ friendship, roots, and passion for the ocean.
The Lenis is an aesthetic deviation for Cerno; it features softer lines with more pronounced curves. The form and construction are similar to that of a ship, constructed of precisely bent elements wrapped in form-fitting fabric, like a boat hull, but with a subtle twist.
The form is balanced and also full of movement. This light fixture is dynamic and works well in many environments. It can be hung over a dining table, entryway, lobby, bar, island, etc. It can also be used to create an artistic composition by using several of these fixtures together.
Innovation often comes through the process of being challenged as a designer to explore new materials, forms, and building techniques. The Lenis challenged Cerno’s team and breathed new life into their design process. The development of the Lenis fixture was nostalgic, and it was a timely reminder of why Cerno started in the first place, which is because of the friendship and a deep passion for the collaborative process of design and building things.
