Product > Textiles: Contract
Starting Point is the inaugural collection from Luum Textiles. Created by Suzanne Tick, each product descends from a common origin story: pre-digital analog processes, particularly the art of hand-weaving. Focusing on analogous palettes, the collection’s textiles include Angulo, Carreaux, Complement, Percept, Point to Point, Perilune, Soft Ridge, Substance and Twining. Starting Point creates a layered, textured experience in a space when the textiles are used alongside one another, thanks to analogous palettes of varied shades, values and saturations. From fiber to finish, across upholstery, panel and wallcoverings, the Starting Point textiles work together in a holistic way.
Starting Point is an integrated collection designed to work across a range of surfaces and bring cohesion to any space. The collection includes two multi-purpose fabrics (Percept, Complement) that provide designers with the option of using the materials as upholstery, panel and/or wrapped wall. Other textiles include Substance, which has a new thick boucle yarn with a softer hand than most heavyweight nylon yarns; Carreaux, which features a complex yarn that combines four fibers, resulting in subtle tonal variations; and Percept, which uses a yarn technology that combines matte and luster, and dark and light tones.
The collection reflects unexpected imperfections introduced by mechanical and hand processes that counteract the overwhelmingly digital nature of the modern world. The collection includes two large-scale fabrics for use on collaborative seating and two small-scale performance patterns. Three vertical fabrics provide a range of textures, while two multi-purpose fabrics feature long colorlines. All fabrics meet or exceed heavy-duty contract requirements, including three bleach-cleanable patterns and three highly durable patterns at 100,000 double rubs.
